Demolishing Spiritual Amnesia: From Trouble to Triumph
As Believers, we oftentimes, become frustrated because it takes a while before our breakthrough busts down our doors. In this waiting season, we have the tendency to forget ALL the ways that Our LORD has made for us. Some of us get discouraged and lose hope, become full of anxiety and frustration. Some of us believe that GOD’s stopped listening to us or that His answer is “No,” but all the while, He’s requiring us to have patience. GOD is wanting us to reflect and use this reflection as fuel that will sustain us while we’re waiting on His next breakthrough to happen in our lives. GOD will delay our NEXT season of change, our next deliverance, because our faith is lacking. He won’t give what He has for us away but He’ll hold onto it until our faith meets our requests.
It’s the time in-between where we are to where GOD’s taking us, next level, that we get bombarded with thoughts of worry and concern. We should be in prayer during this waiting period. We should continue to praise and offer worship while we’re getting ready to receive all that GOD has for our next season, our next level up. It’s what we do in this season that determines our mindset.
GOD’s looking for a People that will believe Him and His abilities to do the impossible and cause all things to work in our favor despite their current situations. He wants us to place our FAITH forward, not wavering or wondering if GOD will but being hopeful and full of assurance that He’s going to come through for us, no matter the timing.
What is Spiritual Amnesia (SA)?
SA happens in some Christians’ lives when faced with difficulties, such as obstacles or valley experiences. Immediately, they become distraught, lose hope, become depressed and burdened with anxiety. They don’t look to GOD as their first resort. They start internalizing and overthinking about all the negative things that could happen, as a result of the turmoil. The possibilities of things swaying in their favor is barely visible because Satan is steadily feeding them doubt, misplacement, abandonment, fear without any hope in sight.
I’ve been in this place. God has done so many wonderful things for me, yet, when I’m faced with some issues, I quickly go into “worry mode.” I don’t force myself to reflect on the ways that God has already made for me. I don’t quickly recall every door that God has opened for me or shut for my good. I’ll start thinking of all of the negative outcomes. I contract SA. I don’t pray as often nor praise as much because I’m so consumed by the fear of the unknown.
Then, my Spirit is quickened and I began to revisit every miracle that God has performed for me; this gives me hope and empowers me. When I press my way forward, I become strengthened in the areas where I was weak. I open my heart for God to pour into me a trip down memory lane. He reminds me of the benefits of being a Joint-Heir with Jesus Christ.
He reminds me of His Holy Word that comforts and consoles me. GOD reminds me that He’s Jehovah Jireh, my provider. He breathes into my being a stream of peace that surpasses any feelings of fear and anxiety that I once had before importation. Not only do I remember the miracles that He’s performed in my life, I’m able to also reflect on the ways that He’s made for people I know and those I don’t but have heard of the goodness of The LORD being showered upon their lives. It’s exhilarating and rejuvenating to recall the ways that GOD has continued to make for me. My soul is nourished and I’m better able to handle stormy situations because I know, beyond doubt, that GOD is my keeper and my sustainer and there’s absolutely nothing that He won’t do for us whom He loves and He chastens.
Toolkit for Turning Trouble to Triumph:
- Know that being “tried” is not the same as being “tempted” (James 1:13-16)
- God is near you and He won’t fail you. (Deuteronomy 31:8)
- God has never lied to you. (Numbers 23:19)
- Amplify your prayer life. Pray continuously and remember to cast all of your cares and concerns to God because we believe that He cares for us. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17; Psalm 34:1-3; 1 Peter 5:7
- Amplify your praise and worship. Sacrifice time and effort to do so, even if it’s hard, because this will cause you to give God due praise and worship which will motivate God to change your situation. Hebrews 13:15-16
- Increase fasting and surround yourself with people who believe God, no matter the circumstance. Sacrificing during difficult times, for God’s purposes, are meant to sustain us, to revive us, and to purify us.
- Understand that Satan desires that we forget all that God has done for us because he only wants to steal, kill and destroy us. Dial into the fact that Jesus Christ deliberately died on Calvary’s Cross for our sins before we’ve even committed them.
- Realize that the Love of God is unrelenting and boundless.
- Adjust Your Attitude so You’re Altitude isn’t Stagnate: We cannot go from glory to glory, ascending and transcending to higher heights in God through His enrichment and nourishment if we’re not willing to be hopeful and increase our faith . Even our speech should be victorious.
- Our heads should remain held high and our pose is standing in assurance wearing our armor. At the pinnacle of our faith, we see our humanity embracing our Spirituality. We are what we speak! Our tongues need to be tamed, guarded, continuously so that we don’t waver in our faith. Our faith only gets stronger as we get wiser in the Knowledge of God. Proverbs 23:7(a)
- Outpouring of Revitalization and Rejuvenation: John 7:38 ushers us into the very important fact, promise, that our bellies are full of living water which will flow into the dry lands of our body that have dried out due to being discouraged, depressed, etc.
- The reason we ought to commune with Our Father when times are going well, the reason we should amplify our prayer, praise, worship, fasting, etc. is because we can use it as Spiritual food to nourish our Spirits and also our minds and bodies.
